The Youth Corps Program allows high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to assist in patient care alongside members of New Paltz Rescue Squad. Members of the Youth Corps Program are a part of the emergency services that NPRS provides, and are therefore responsible for assisting members with tasks such as, taking vitals, patient transport and movement, and general usage of healthcare skills. Members are allowed to learn up to 10 skills, dependent on the capabilities of adult membership. Members are required to obtain CPR certification prior to application. Youth members are also required to ride a minimum of 12 hours (3 four hour shifts or 2 six hour shifts) per month and may not exceed more than 6 shifts. Overall, the Youth Corps Program is a fantastic opportunity for young members of the community to become a part of emergency services, while developing their leadership, healthcare, and teamwork skills.
