Matthew Goodnow

Matthew has been involved in emergency services for over twenty five years, starting out as a volunteer firefighter, EMT, and then paramedic in 2007. Matthew is a two-time County and one-time Regional Winner of the Harriet C. Weber Leadership Award. He has been a leader in emergency medical services since the beginning. Early on in his career, he became an FTO and instructor in countless American Heart and NAEMT courses. Currently, he continues to train and teach in both Fire and EMS classes.
Matthew has served as Fire Chief of Gardiner Fire Department as well as Chief and CEO of New Paltz Rescue Squad since 2017. Working hard to elevate the profession in various ways, such as advocating for making Emergency Medical Services an Essential Service, both in his community and beyond. During his leadership of New Paltz Rescue, Matthew has been an essential voice in doubling the response area as well as call volume to reach areas that require faster response. In addition to advocating for emergency medical services, Matthew is passionate about First Responder Mental Health. He strives to normalize seeking support for mental health to his colleagues as well as staff members. His intentions are to create a work environment that is both supportive, while still providing the highest quality of emergency medical services.
